Inhaled Corticosteroids Helpful for Severe COPD - A review of 13 studies which involved over 5,600 patients with COPD found that for those patients with moderate to forms of the disease inhaled corticosteroid treatments was beneficial with about 1/3 fewer exacerbations and acceptable side effects. According to the study the inhaled medicines do not seem to benefit those patients with a mild form of COPD.

A March 2006 study published in the journal Thorax reports that smokers and ex-smokers with more facial wrinkling also had significantly lower FEV1 and a substantially increased risk of COPD.
