Singulair, Accolate, Zyflo

Leukotriene Receptor Antagonists

Singulair is leukotriene receptor antagonist. This new type of medications inhibits leukotrines when they try to attach to various cellular receptors. Leukotrienes are chemicals released from mast cells and work to contract smooth muscles, increase the ability of small blood vessels to release fluid, increase mucus secretions, and attract various inflammatory cells. All these things are good when there is an infection, but are not good for people with asthma or allergies. It should be noted that these medicines aren't to be used in place of a rescue medication.

These medicines are taken in tablet usually once a day.
